The small print. Honestly.

These terms cover the Small Print app and this website. We've written them to be read. Last updated 24 September 2026.

The most important part: Small Print is a helper, not a guarantee. It can miss a subscription trap, and it can warn about a page that's perfectly fine. Always read what you're agreeing to before you pay.

1. Who we are

Small Print is made by Zigazag Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17378424) ("we", "us"). You can contact us at john@evengreen.co.uk.

2. Using Small Print

We give you a free, personal licence to install and use the Small Print app on your own devices, or on the device of someone you're helping, with their agreement. Please don't copy, modify, resell or redistribute the app, or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows.

3. What Small Print does, and doesn't do

It reads the text on your screen and looks for wording that suggests a repeating charge, then shows a warning. It uses patterns, not a list of every website, so it will not catch every trap.
It may occasionally warn about a page that's legitimate, such as an ordinary free trial. The choice to buy is always yours. Small Print never blocks a purchase.
Prices, trial lengths and yearly totals in a warning are worked out from the page's own wording and may not be exact. The company's own terms are what count.
Reminders depend on your phone delivering notifications on time. Battery-saving settings, turning the phone off or uninstalling the app can delay or stop them.
Cancellation letters are templates. You check and send them yourself, from your own email. We don't contact companies or banks for you.

4. Not financial or legal advice

Small Print and this website give general information to help you spot and deal with subscription traps. Nothing in the app or on this site is financial or legal advice, and the letters don't guarantee a refund. For advice about your situation, contact Citizens Advice (0808 223 1133) or a qualified adviser.

5. Your responsibilities

Read the terms of anything you sign up to, and check your bank statements.
Make sure anything you send using our letter templates is accurate.
Only install Small Print on someone else's phone with their knowledge and agreement.
Download the app only from thesmallprint.app or an official app store.

6. Privacy

The app has no internet access and doesn't send us any data. Our privacy policy explains exactly what it reads and what it keeps on your phone.

7. Our responsibility to you

We provide Small Print free of charge and do our best to make it work well, but we can't promise it will be error-free or catch every trap. As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for any payments you make, subscriptions you sign up to or losses you suffer, whether or not Small Print warned you.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that can't legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you're a consumer, your legal rights aren't affected.

8. Changes and updates

We may update the app and these terms. If we make an important change, we'll show it on this page and, where it matters, in the app. We may stop offering Small Print at any time. The app on your phone will keep working as it is.

9. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
